Gongyo Book — a better way than a PDF

Gongyo is the daily practice of Nichiren Buddhists: reciting the "Expedient Means" (Hoben) chapter and the verse section of the "Life Span" (Juryo) chapter of the Lotus Sutra, then chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and offering silent prayers. Most people search for a Gongyo book PDF so they can follow along on their phone. Manifest with Daimoku gives you the Gongyo book and silent prayers inside the app, works offline, and records morning and evening Gongyo with one tap.

What is in the Gongyo book?

The Gongyo book contains the two Lotus Sutra passages recited in daily practice, written out in a romanised form so anyone can follow the pronunciation, along with the silent prayers said at the end.

Morning and evening Gongyo use the same recitation. What changes from person to person is the rhythm: some practise both every day, some focus on one, and life sometimes gets in the way. That is normal.

Why a PDF is not enough

A downloaded PDF gets buried in your phone's files, needs pinching and zooming to read, and does nothing to help you notice your own practice over time.

In the app, the Gongyo book opens in one tap from the Gongyo screen, is saved for offline reading, and sits right next to the button that marks today's Gongyo as done. The app works out whether you are in the morning or evening window for you.

Track Gongyo without pressure

Gongyo is kept separate from your chanting minutes. Over a few weeks you can see your rhythm — which mornings hold steady, which evenings slip — as quiet information for your own reflection. There are no streak penalties, rankings or comparisons with anyone else.
