Daimoku Calculator — how long will your goal take?
At a medium pace of about 55 daimoku a minute, one hour of chanting is roughly 3,300 daimoku, so 1 million daimoku takes about 303 hours — around 3 hours a day for 100 days, or 1 hour a day for about 10 months. Slow chanting (about 45 a minute) needs roughly 370 hours; brisk chanting (about 68 a minute) about 245 hours. Use the calculator below to plan your own goal.
How the daimoku count is estimated
One daimoku is one recitation of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. Speeds vary from person to person, so the calculator uses three cadences: slow (~45 a minute), medium (~55 a minute, the default) and fast (~68 a minute).
The count is an estimate to help you plan. What matters is sincere, steady practice — not the exact number.
Common daimoku goals
100,000 daimoku ≈ 30 hours · 500,000 daimoku ≈ 152 hours · 1 million daimoku ≈ 303 hours · 3 million daimoku ≈ 909 hours (all at medium speed).
Many practitioners set a million-daimoku campaign before an important turning point, such as a job change, exam, health challenge or relationship.
Keep the count without counting
Counting beads or tallying on paper is easy to lose track of. In the app you chant with the timer or log a session, and your minutes add up automatically towards your campaign — no counting needed.
