Winter Truly Turned to Spring

In 2006, Radhika Malhotra and her husband Amit attended their very first BSG meeting — a May 3rd Commemorative Meeting.

The experiences shared there left a deep impression on her heart.

Something about the sincerity, courage, and hope of the members felt profoundly real.

She decided to give Nichiren Buddhism an honest chance.

At the time, Radhika worked night shifts.

After returning home around 2 a.m., she would sit down immediately to chant daimoku before preparing her young son for school.

Only after sending him off each morning would she finally rest.

Within just one month of sincere practice, a remarkable breakthrough occurred.

She received a new job offer with:

Morning shifts

Better working conditions

Three times her previous salary

For Radhika, this became her first undeniable actual proof of the power of the Gohonzon.

Hope, which had once felt distant, suddenly became tangible.

When Everything Fell Apart

Two years later, life changed dramatically.

Her husband’s business collapsed completely.

The family was buried under enormous debt.

Yet even amidst panic and uncertainty, one prayer remained foremost in their hearts:

That the employees dependent on the business should not suffer.

With sincere concern for their livelihood, they handed over the business to one of the employees.

Soon afterward, the family was forced to sell their home and move into a modest rented apartment.

Radhika became the sole earning member of the household.

But the financial pressure only intensified.

Debt collectors began appearing at her workplace regularly.

They shouted insults publicly and humiliated her in front of male colleagues.

Every day felt emotionally exhausting.

Fear of losing her job constantly weighed on her mind.

At times, it felt as though her dignity itself was slipping away.

Clinging to Hope

During this painful period, one Gosho line became the rhythm of her life:

“Winter always turns to spring.”

(‘Winter Always Turns to Spring’, WND-1)

Determined not to be defeated, Radhika strengthened her practice intensely.

Every morning before work, she:

Chanted two hours of daimoku

Studied the Gosho

Read The New Human Revolution

On her way home each evening, she made home visits to encourage members.

BSG leaders constantly visited and supported the family warmly.

Their encouragement helped both Radhika and Amit rediscover courage and dignity.

Gradually, the couple immersed themselves more deeply in kosen-rufu activities.

They took responsibility as district leaders and challenged themselves through:

Home visits

Chanting

Encouraging inactive members

Supporting district unity

As district statistics incharge, Radhika especially prayed for members who had drifted away from faith.

One Gosho passage deeply united the district:

“If the spirit of many in body and one in mind prevails, they will achieve all their goals.”

(‘Many in Body, One in Mind’, WND-1)

Slowly, the district atmosphere began changing.

And little by little, victories started appearing.

Discovering Strength Through Supporting Others

As Radhika encouraged members facing struggles, something unexpected happened.

Her own fear began transforming into determination.

She stopped viewing their suffering as punishment.

Instead, she began seeing it as an opportunity:

To repay karmic debt.

To strengthen faith.

And to create immense causes for future victory.

At the same time, Amit rediscovered a forgotten talent.

He had always possessed strong sketching skills.

After attending a few online and offline classes, he began pursuing art professionally.

He started organizing exhibitions in Delhi and Gurugram.

Remarkably, his artwork sold consistently.

Gradually, the family started repaying debts step by step.

Meanwhile, Amit too deepened his Gakkai efforts.

Despite long travel distances, he attended meetings regularly and nurtured several men’s division members sincerely.

The same crisis that once threatened to break them was slowly revealing completely new possibilities.

Rebuilding Life From a Bedroom

Then another unexpected opportunity emerged.

In 2011, while online business was just beginning to grow rapidly in India, Amit decided to experiment with export business.

With extremely limited resources, he started working directly from their bedroom.

The following year, Radhika’s company offered her a transfer to Delhi.

Instead, she made a bold decision.

She resigned from her stable corporate job and joined Amit full-time in building the business.

Slowly, the export venture began expanding.

Orders increased steadily.

The bedroom office eventually transformed into a proper studio space.

Watching this remarkable transformation, even Radhika’s brother was inspired to begin practicing Buddhism.

Step by step, the family rebuilt not only their finances, but also their confidence in life itself.

A Mother’s Prayer for Her Son

Their son Aditya grew up surrounded by the warmth of the Soka environment.

But during college years, his practice gradually weakened.

At the same time, he carried a dream close to his heart:

To study abroad.

Because of financial limitations, however, he initially completed undergraduate studies in Bengaluru instead.

Yet the family refused to give up on his dream.

Together, they chanted sincerely with the conviction that the Mystic Law would open the way.

And eventually, it did.

In 2021, Aditya secured admission into a prestigious dual-degree program in Australia.

He also received a scholarship covering most of his expenses.

Then came another deeply emotional breakthrough for Radhika.

After moving abroad, Aditya reconnected to the practice and attended his first meeting there in June this year.

For Radhika, this felt like the true victory of raising a successor in faith.

From Debt to Creating a Kaikan

Today, both Radhika and Amit continue advancing joyfully in kosen-rufu.

Amit now supports an entire zone, while Radhika takes care of a region.

Their business has expanded across multiple countries.

Most importantly, they have completely repaid all creditors.

Then came another dream fulfilled.

In 2023, they purchased a plot of land matching exactly the specifications Radhika had prayed for.

Construction began not only for their home, but also for a private kaikan.

Recently, they shifted into their new house — three times larger than the one they had once been forced to sell.

In July, they inaugurated their private kaikan joyfully.

They also now run an Eternal Ganges outlet.

The family that once lost everything had now rebuilt their life on a far stronger foundation of faith, unity, and purpose.

A Line That Stayed With Me

“Winter always turns to spring.”

Reflection

Financial crises often shake people at the deepest emotional level.

Debt, humiliation, instability, and fear can make the future feel hopeless.

Yet Buddhism teaches that difficult circumstances are not permanent identities.

When people continue creating value through prayer, courage, unity, and sincere action, even the harshest “winter” eventually changes.

Radhika’s journey shows that true wealth is not merely financial recovery.

It is the ability to rebuild one’s dignity, relationships, confidence, and mission through adversity.
