Steady Efforts, Extraordinary Transformation
Steady Efforts, Extraordinary Transformation
When I first encountered this Buddhist practice, I was emotionally fragile. I lacked confidence, avoided taking responsibility, constantly doubted myself, and had no clarity about my future. Even small decisions felt overwhelming. Deep inside, I wanted to become stronger, but I simply didn't know how.
I decided to begin chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo consistently and started attending meetings regularly. Slowly, I noticed subtle but powerful changes within myself. I became calmer, more responsible, and much more hopeful. Instead of constantly worrying about my own limitations, I began believing that I could genuinely transform my life.
Determined not to practice casually, I immersed myself wholeheartedly in Buddhist study and activities. I started making home visits, taking responsibility for meetings, and studying Nichiren Daishonin's writings every day. Writing down important passages and reflecting on how to apply them in daily life became part of my routine.
One day, my determination was tested unexpectedly.
On the morning of an important discussion meeting, I received devastating news that my parents had met with a serious road accident. Panic immediately took over. I cried uncontrollably, imagining the worst possible outcome.
After those first moments of fear, I sat before the Gohonzon and began chanting with everything I had. As my prayer deepened, fear gradually transformed into conviction. I became absolutely determined that my family would overcome this crisis.
My fellow members immediately supported me like family, helping me arrange my travel home. When I reached the hospital, I found that my mother had suffered severe facial injuries and required immediate surgery. My father, despite the terrible damage to their vehicle, had escaped almost completely unharmed and had somehow managed to drive my injured mother to the nearest hospital.
The doctors successfully treated my mother, and remarkably, she recovered much faster than anyone had expected. Watching her regain her health strengthened not only my own faith but also my family's trust in this practice.
Rather than becoming discouraged by the crisis, I returned with even greater determination to encourage others.
I took responsibility for supporting several young women and women members through regular prayers, home visits, and heartfelt dialogues. Chanting one million daimoku became an important milestone in strengthening my own life condition. Gradually, I saw members around me becoming more confident, reconnecting with their own potential, and creating victories in their lives. Their growth became one of my greatest sources of happiness.
At the same time, another difficult challenge emerged at my workplace.
As a company secretary, I worked sincerely and diligently, yet nothing seemed good enough. My seniors frequently criticized my work, pointed out mistakes publicly, and made me feel unwanted. Going to the office every morning became emotionally exhausting. Eventually, even my own Buddhist practice began to suffer because discouragement had started affecting my mornings.
Seeking guidance helped me realize that the real battle was not with my workplace but with my own inner life. Instead of praying for circumstances to change, I started praying to become someone who could never be defeated by circumstances.
Every morning, I chanted with the determination to become the very best version of myself at work. I also continued encouraging another inactive member, praying for her happiness while challenging my own negativity.
Gradually, something remarkable happened.
Without any confrontation or complaint from my side, my workplace atmosphere completely changed. The same senior who had constantly criticized me began appreciating my contribution and openly acknowledged my value to the organization. Even financial deductions that had occurred while I was away caring for my parents were unexpectedly reversed and credited back to my account.
Just as life seemed to settle again, another obstacle appeared.
My landlord informed me that I would have to vacate my apartment because my roommate had moved out, and he did not permit single occupancy. Since my family was also worried about me living alone, the uncertainty became another source of anxiety.
This time, however, I responded differently.
Instead of worrying endlessly, I prayed sincerely for everyone's happiness, including my landlord's, while actively looking for practical solutions. I continued participating fully in meetings and home visits without allowing anxiety to dominate my heart.
Then, unexpectedly, while I was out encouraging another member, I received a call informing me that my landlord had changed his decision and agreed to let me continue staying alone in the apartment.
That experience taught me an invaluable lesson: when my determination remains alive, solutions often appear in ways I could never have planned.
One of my deepest dreams also came true when my mother and younger brother attended a discussion meeting for the first time. Seeing them take their own first steps toward this philosophy filled my heart with gratitude.
Looking back, I realize that none of my victories came overnight. They were built through countless ordinary days of chanting, studying, encouraging others, and refusing to give up despite setbacks.
Today, I am no longer the timid young woman who constantly focused on her weaknesses. Every challenge has helped me uncover strengths I never knew I possessed. My determination now is to continue growing every day, deepen my study, encourage countless others, develop capable future leaders, and spend my life proving through consistent action that steady efforts rooted in faith can transform every aspect of life.
