Becoming the One Who Never Gives Up
Rohan Mehta first encountered Nichiren Buddhism in 2015.
At first, he appreciated the philosophy intellectually.
But for several years, his practice remained inconsistent.
It was only in 2018 that he truly began understanding what it meant to “practice” Buddhism — to turn to the Gohonzon as his first response in every situation instead of relying only on fear, logic, or anxiety.
That shift changed everything.
Gradually, Rohan began challenging his own negativity, doubt, and limitations through daimoku and human revolution.
For the first time, Buddhism became something deeply lived rather than merely understood.
The Power of Consistent Daimoku
In 2019, a major challenge struck the family.
Rohan’s young daughter was diagnosed with chronic high fever caused by an extremely weak immune system.
The doctor advised against sending her to daycare after school because even ordinary infections could become dangerous.
At the same time, both Rohan and his wife needed to work full-time because of financial liabilities.
The situation felt impossible.
But instead of panicking, Rohan turned to the Gohonzon with strong determination.
He prayed sincerely that a solution benefiting both his daughter and family would emerge.
Unexpectedly, his company soon offered him the option to work from home.
It felt like the perfect solution.
Then the pandemic arrived.
His daughter’s school closed.
His company faced severe financial downturn.
Eventually, resigning from his job became unavoidable.
While this allowed him to care for his daughter full-time, a new fear emerged:
How would the family survive financially?
Yet through all of this, one thing remained unchanged.
Rohan’s daily daimoku never wavered.
Human Revolution Through Responsibility
Seeking guidance during this difficult period, Rohan was encouraged to focus on human revolution in order to manifest his inner potential fully.
Soon afterward, a new opportunity emerged in an unexpected form.
He was transferred to a district where most members had become inactive.
Rather than viewing it as a burden, Rohan treated it as a mission.
He made a determination to Sensei:
That he would do whatever human revolution was necessary to build a vibrant and united district together with fellow members.
As district statistics in-charge, he studied the MDS carefully every single day.
Together with district leaders, he focused on cherishing every individual member sincerely.
Daily communication and accountability strengthened their unity and sense of responsibility.
Slowly, the district atmosphere began transforming.
As Rohan changed internally, his environment began responding visibly.
Not Giving In to Despair
At the same time, Rohan continued searching intensely for employment opportunities.
He explored every possible avenue without losing hope.
Eventually, he reconnected with an old associate from years earlier.
That renewed connection gradually opened opportunities to collaborate on various real estate projects — his professional field.
Then another challenge struck.
Rohan’s mother suffered a serious head injury and fractured her hand.
Once again, fear and helplessness threatened to dominate his mind.
But instead of collapsing emotionally, Rohan focused on supporting and chanting alongside district members who were also facing difficult struggles.
As they strove together shoulder to shoulder, many members began reporting breakthroughs in their own lives.
At home too, positive changes emerged.
His mother recovered steadily.
The district recorded unusually high discussion meeting attendance.
The youth division expanded to nearly twenty active members.
Even amid personal challenges, collective striving created momentum and hope.
Actual Proof Within the Family
One of the most encouraging developments came through his daughter’s health.
Gradually, her immunity became significantly stronger.
In 2021, when the entire family contracted COVID-19, she showed almost no major symptoms and recovered quickly.
For Rohan, this felt like undeniable actual proof of consistent prayer and practice.
That same year, he also received encouragement from Ikeda Sensei.
It became a deeply personal “prime point” in his life with his mentor.
From then onward, he made a fresh determination:
To cherish every member sincerely and ensure that the advancement of kosen-rufu in his unit remained unstoppable.
Recognizing His Own Stagnation
Over time, however, Rohan slowly became complacent regarding his search for stable full-time employment.
When he reflected deeply, he realized something important:
The real problem was not external circumstances.
It was stagnation in his own faith.
Gradually, this inner stagnation also began appearing externally as disharmony at home.
Senior leaders encouraged him to refresh and renew his practice completely.
Rohan responded seriously.
He renewed his vow to his mentor and challenged himself afresh in:
Faith
Practice
Study
Mainline responsibilities
Behind-the-scenes activities
At the end of 2022, remarkable changes appeared.
He received not one, but three job offers.
The role he eventually accepted gave him enough financial freedom to provide his daughter with the best after-school daycare support available nearby.
Renewing his determination internally had once again transformed his external reality.
Seeking Out ‘One True Comrade’
This year, Rohan took on even greater chapter-level responsibility while simultaneously facing fresh workplace challenges.
He noticed a familiar pattern.
In nearly every job he had held, there was always one difficult relationship at work.
This new role was no different.
But this time, inspired by BSG campaigns, he made a bold determination:
To transform this difficult professional relationship into genuine friendship.
At the same time, he received guidance that there was no greater cause than connecting members to Sensei — especially through studying Value Creation .
Rohan began forging deeper friendships with members and sincerely sharing Sensei’s guidance.
He encouraged subscriptions to Value Creation and focused especially on youth engagement.
More than sixty percent of the youth attended their May 3rd meeting.
The district’s Value Creation subscriptions also increased significantly.
Meanwhile, something unexpected happened at work.
The colleague who had initially been difficult gradually changed.
He began appreciating Rohan’s work openly.
By changing himself first, Rohan quietly transformed even difficult human relationships.
A Line That Stayed With Me
“The more I changed, the more my environment changed.”
Reflection
Consistency is often underestimated.
People usually look for dramatic breakthroughs.
But Buddhism teaches that steady daily efforts gradually transform life at the deepest level.
Rohan’s journey shows that human revolution is not a one-time event.
It is a continuous process of refreshing faith, challenging stagnation, and choosing growth repeatedly.
Sometimes, the greatest victory is simply refusing to stop moving forward.
